The region of Chonburi is often overlooked by tourists visiting Thailand but it is well worth considering as an alternative to the more popular regions.
The city of Chonburi can be reached easily from Bangkok by taking the Bang Na Trad Highway 34 which will take you direct to this beautiful region of Thailand. The distance from Bangkok is approx 80 kilometers . Chonburi city is considered an international world class tourist city and has experienced rapid growth over the past few years so you will find good hotels and first class restaurants.

Do visit Ang Sila a typical seaside fishing village just 5 kilometers from Chonburi center. Ang Sila is famed for its seafood in particular oysters and mussels. Well worth setting aside some space and will last a life time unless dropped.
Bangsaen beach which is also close by is a very popular destination for Thai's on a day trip to from Bangkok. The nearby Nogmom market specializes in dried seafood such as dried squid , dried shrimps and salted fish all an acquired taste.
Jomtien beach south of Pattaya offers 4 kilometers of clean sandy beaches, this area of Pattaya is peaceful and is favored by both Thais and foreigners. Nearby Pattaya can be visited during the day for shopping or in the evening to experience the nightlife on offer in walking street.
To visit all the worthwhile locations in Chonburi it is advised to rent car, ensure the car that you rent comes with first class insurance with either a low or zero excess. Budget Thailand offer a zero excess package which will allow you to drive worry free.

Why Not Hire a Car In Chiang Mai With a Driver
Chiang Mai unlike the rest of Thailand is cool and sometimes even cold. The reason being its high altitude in the northern mountainous region of Thailand. For Thais who live in the hot and humid south of Thailand a trip to Chiang Mai in the north is like a trip to the north pole. It is not really cold by western standards but I would advise packing a few sweaters along with those hiking boots.
I mention hiking boots as this region is famed for its hiking trails. Hikes can vary from a short day hike to a hike lasting a few days your choice. Chaing Mai is also well know for the hill tribes that live in the nearby mountain regions. You will also see members of the hill tribes in Chiang Mai most are selling wares but you will fall in love with their wonderful colorful and exotic costumes and those wide eyed innocent smiles.
If hiking is to strenuous then the other option is to hire a car preferably a 4x4 to help with the steep hills and go exploring this beautiful region of Thailand. In fact car hire or prearranged tour trips are the only way to experience this remote region of Thailand.
Most people arrive via airplane from the Bangkok Dun Muang domestic airport; please note this is can change so do check with airline in advance. If you have time the train from Bangkok is an attractive option.

A rental car is not expensive to run as petrol is cheap in Thailand and parking is free. Do book your car hire in advance with a reputable company to avoid ending up possibly with a car with worn brake pads, no power steering and possibly no or limited insurance cover.
If you decide not to rent a car the you can avail of the local taxi service which comprise of open back pickups with 2 rows of seats ( no seat belts ). These can be flagged down just like a taxi and will bring you back to your resort, do agree a price upfront to save on any misunderstanding, a copy of hotel name card will also help.
